Wildlife Care
Helping Injured and Orphaned Wildlife Thrive
At Sugarloaf Animal Hospital, we are passionate about caring for local wildlife. Our experienced veterinary team provides expert treatment for injured, sick, or orphaned animals, helping them recover safely and, whenever possible, return to their natural habitat.
Why Wildlife Care Matters
Injured or orphaned wildlife face significant challenges in the wild. Prompt veterinary care can mean the difference between survival and permanent injury. Our team works to provide compassionate, professional care while minimising stress for the animal.
What’s Included in Wildlife Care
Our wildlife services may include:
- Emergency treatment for injured or sick animals
- Medical assessments and diagnostics
- Supportive care for orphaned young animals
- Rehabilitation advice and planning
- Safe release back into the wild whenever possible
We combine medical expertise with a deep understanding of local wildlife species to provide the best chance of recovery.
What to Do If You Find Injured Wildlife
If you come across an injured or orphaned animal, follow these steps:
- 1. Stay calm and approach the animal quietly
- 2. Minimise handling to reduce stress. Use a towel or box if safe to do so.
- 3. Keep the animal warm and safe away from pets, children, and loud noises.
- 4. Contact us immediately for advice on safe transport and care.
- 5. Do not attempt to feed or medicate the animal unless instructed by a veterinarian.
Following these steps can make a significant difference to the animal’s chances of recovery.
