Rehabilitation and physical therapy

At Sugarloaf Animal Hospital, we are proud to be able to offer the services of our consultant Rehabilitation Vet Dr. Lindy Price of NewLife Vets, supported by our own trained nursing staff. Dr. Lindy has more than 25 years of experience as a practising vet, with more than a decade dedicated to rehabilitation and physical therapy.
Rehabilitation is to restore an animal’s normal function and range of motion after injury or a surgical procedure, for both muscles and joints. Veterinary rehab borrows from other disciplines, including physiotherapy, exercise, physiology and occupational therapy.
Physiotherapy is the key element. However, it can also be used as a preventative measure for breeds that are likely to be susceptible to ailments such as elbow and hip dysplasia or arthritis.
Programmes may include:
  • Massage therapy – Release tension and soreness, reduce swelling
  • Trigger Point therapy – Joint mobilisation, range of motion
  • Exercise therapy – Build strength and endurance
  • Weight management – Obesity can lead to many other medical problems
  • Pain management
Some of these procedures will be taught to you by Dr. Lindy and our trained nursing staff, so that you can contribute to your pet’s recovery at home. In some cases, video support is available.
