Name:
Amilia (Milly) Walters
Role at SAH
Veterinary Nurse
Qualifications
Certificate IV in veterinary nursing and a heap of various short courses.
How long have you worked at SAH?
6 years!
What is the MOST enjoyable thing about your job?
I love the different species I have the opportunity to care for. I love being able to play a part in nursing a very unwell fur baby back to health and getting it back home to its family.

Do you have any pets?
Two horses: Digga, a rescue Standardbred and Sugar a rescue mini.
Two English bulldogs: Duke (rescue) and Harvey; and a rescue Greyhound Rosie! Two snakes: Basil (woma python) and Daisy (Albino Darwin Carpet Python).
Pip and Stanley, the shingle-back lizards. Falecia the Bearded Dragon and Joe Goldberg the Mountain Dragon.
Poncho the Persian and Brutus, a British Shorthair.
Oh — and some funny chickens!
Where is your favourite local place to go for a break?
Nelson’s Bay is always a winner! With my lounge being a close second! Nelson’s Bay has beautiful beaches, great food and lots of things to do. My lounge is comfy and is the best for cuddling up with my little family.

Where would you go for a good meal out locally?
Local to SAH would be West Wallsend’s newest Indian takeaway *drool*. The naans and Korma are next level!
Near home would be Mount Broke Pizza on a Friday night — the best!
If you could have any animal at all as a pet, what would you choose and why?
A hedgehog or a monitor of some kind! Hedgehogs are just so damn cute!! And monitors are just such incredible reptiles! They remind me of dinosaurs.

Can you tell us a story about work?
The one that comes to mind is comforting and supporting a beautiful client in the final moments of their special little pet’s life. Making sure that their pet wasn’t stressed or in pain during that time and that the client felt prepared and ready to say goodbye. It’s never easy, but it’s such a privilege to be able to help both client and pet through such a difficult situation.
Tell us a bit more about yourself...
I have a beautiful daughter Marli and an amazing husband, Blaise.
I live in the country, Which I have dreamt of all my life.
I love travelling and have hiked Machu Picchu.
I LOVE working with our exotics at SAH
I would live off fresh bread and butter if it was an option!
