Kate – Hospital Manager
Animal care began when Kate was a little girl. She always knew she wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse, and since entering the animal care industry she has been nursing in Newcastle since the early 80’s.
Kate has pursued continuing education in areas of Native Wildlife and Financial Management. The latter in particular has been a major contributor to the development of the Sugarloaf Animal Hospital to the gold standard animal health care facility we know it as today.
Kate, husband Dr Mark and their children share their home with a population of pets, including dogs Genghis and Kirby, the pride of cats including Laura, Mr Pink, Megan and Pete, not to mention various transient frogs and lizards.
When she is not working Kate loves to bake, read and go ‘real camping’ with her boys.
Nicole – Nursing Manager
Nicole’s journey began in 2005, in her home town of Gloucester, where she nursed small and large patients.
Nicole’s passion for animals grew, she become more interested in critical care, orthopaedic surgeries, wound management and the fun side of stylish dog grooming which lead her to completed a professional dog grooming school program in 2006.
Nicole joined the Sugarloaf team in 2010, where she learned to love reptiles, birds and everything exotic, she continued her education since completing Cert IV in Frontline Management becoming our lead puppy preschool educator and Nursing Manager.
Nicole shares her life with a Husky Dog named ‘Indi’, and recently rescued ‘Harper’( DNA testing revelled as a Great Dane / Scottish Deerhound / Bull Terrier and a German Pointer), and two beautiful pythons, “Olive” and “Dexter”.
When Nurse Nicole is not working she loves to spend time with her family, keeping healthy.
Del – Receptionist / Veterinary Nurse
After deciding for the career change that she has always dreamt of, Del completed her Certificate II & III in Companion Animal Studies and is currently studying Certificate IV in Vet Nursing. Starting out under volunteer work placement, Del joined the Sugarloaf team in April 2013. Del has also completed a Diploma in Business Administration & Financial Planning. Coming from a Client Service trained background and with ongoing education, means Del can provide a high level of knowledge and customer service.
Del feels extremely fortunate to be part of the Sugarloaf Animal Hospital family and loves her role within the team. When you meet Del, you will immediately feel welcomed by her warm and enthusiastic personality.
Del is new to the Newcastle area and, while she is still finding her way around, she is thoroughly enjoying the sea change and culture the Hunter has to offer. Del has a love for all creatures great and small and in particular for geriatric patients. In her spare time, Del enjoys soaking up the sun with her Maltese named Chloe, Kat her cat and her two birdies Bernie and Suzie.
Milly – Veterinary Nurse
Milly has always had a love for animals and decided at a young age that following in the footsteps of her mother who is also a Veterinary Nurse. She is a local and grew up in West Wallsend and has always had quite a large menagerie of animals at home, which she loves!
She began her studies during high school with studying Animal Studies as a TVET course. After finishing years 11 and 12 she went straight on to study Veterinary Nursing at Kurri Kurri TAFE and began work experience at Belmont Veterinary Hospital where she then gained a fulltime nursing positon whilst completing her studies. After a short break she was fortunate enough to join the SAH family.
Milly does natural Horsemanship with her rescue Standardbred named Digga who is super cheeky. She also owns a rescue retired racing Greyhound called Gilley who is forever up-side-down fast asleep! In her spare time she loves going to the gym, enjoying the outdoors and attending regular yoga sessions.
Jacinta – Veterinary Nurse
Jacinta is currently undergoing her Cert IV in veterinary nursing, through Crampton’s Consulting. Once she has gained her qualification Jacinta wishes to study for her Diploma of surgical nursing.
Outside of work, Jacinta owns a very energetic staffy named Maxi, who is her running companion.
She also shares her home with ‘Buttons’ her rescued Lop Rabbit.
Jacinta has always had a great passion for anything animal and cares deeply for all animal welfare.
Since joining the Sugarloaf Animal Hospital family in November 2014, Jacinta has embraced the challenges and considers it her dream job!
Aimee – Receptionist
Growing up in a small country town Aimee has always had a variety of furry and feathered friends around her. So she was very excited to have the opportunity to join the team at the Sugarloaf Animal Hospital in October 2015.
Aimee has come from a vocational background of Early Child Care & Education, but her love of both children and animals has developed in parallel, and she always thought that the work in one area might eventually lead to working in the other, and satisfying her strong passion for caring for animals.
Aimee spends her time outside of work camping and four-wheel driving, and has a deep desire to contribute to the preservation of the natural environment.
Her extremely energetic and playful terrier cross Addy keeps her company on her adventures and loves to explore the bush with her!
Elle – Veterinary Nurse
Elle has been nursing for the past 6 years in her hometown of Gloucester and has recently started at Sugarloaf Animal Hospital. Since starting Elle has seen many new conditions and species, and is she enjoying the varied caseload that Sugarloaf has to offer.
Elle shares her home with a range of animals including Mini foxie “Tim Tam”, her cat “Meyers”, her two stock x quarter horses Knox and Glitz as well as her cows! Outside of her work Elle enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, camping and horse riding. Is also a food lover! Elle has always had a passion for animals and when she finished her HSC she moved to central Queensland to work on a cattle station as a Jillaroo for 2 years.
When she moved back to Gloucester she landed the job at the Gloucester Veterinary Hospital and completed her certificate 4 in vet nursing via correspondence through Tamworth TAFE.
Elle has quite a reputation amongst her friends for her love of spontaneous “adventures”, especially if they involve the yummiest gourmet foods!
